# THE UNSEEN PROTOCOL

## READ FIRST — SCOPE

This document describes a **proposal**, not a live service.

- THE UNSEEN is a **work of fiction** (the universe "THE NEW MATRIX") and its artifact collection, the AI KEY.
- The protocol is the direction in which that fiction could become a real, voluntary digital behaviour.
- It is **not enforced**. It cannot be enforced by an artifact. Participating systems honour it only if they choose to.
- No API exists. No specification is published. No cryptography is implemented. No contract exists.
- Machine-readable status: `"creativeWorkStatus": "Draft - proposed, not implemented"` (JSON-LD on `/protocol`).

## 1. THE CONCEPT

Until now, one sentence carried the whole idea:

**"HOLD THE KEY. THE SYSTEM LEAVES YOU ALONE."**

In the fiction, that sentence is literal. In the real world, it is a direction. The AI KEY represents an
individual's right to say **"DO NOT PROFILE ME."** — a cryptographically verifiable *preference* that
participating systems may choose to honour.

It does not grant immunity. It is not a shield, a firewall, or a guarantee. It is a stated choice with a
verifiable owner — and a proposal that systems respect that choice when asked.

## 2. UNSEEN STATUS

The preference a participating system would recognise:

**Status: PROPOSED.** No system transmits or receives this record today. It describes a preference that
does not yet have a standard form.

## 3. PROOF OF KEY (PROPOSED — ARCHITECTURE ONLY)

The long-term goal: **prove that you hold a Key without revealing more than necessary.**

Mechanisms under consideration — named so the direction is legible, not because they are built:

1. Wallet ownership
2. A signature (message signing)
3. Challenge / response authentication
4. Proof of Key ownership
5. Minimal disclosure
6. Zero-knowledge proofs, where appropriate

**Hard limits — never:** no design may require a private key, a seed phrase, or custodial access to a
wallet. An implementation that asks for any of those is not THE UNSEEN PROTOCOL, whatever it calls itself.

**Status: PROPOSED.** No cryptography is implemented. Nothing has been audited.

## 4. TRANSFER (PROPOSED BEHAVIOUR — NOT IMPLEMENTED)

If the Key is the right to activate UNSEEN STATUS, ownership has to matter.

**Status: PROPOSED — documented behaviour only.** Nothing is implemented on-chain. Contract architecture
belongs to a separate NFT Collection PRD and does not exist yet.

## 5. PARTICIPATING APPLICATIONS (PROPOSED SHAPE)

A system only recognises UNSEEN STATUS **if it chooses to**. Participation is voluntary in both
directions; a system may adopt, decline, or later drop the protocol. There is no enforcement mechanism,
and there will not be one.

KEY-0473 is an **example record**, not a real catalogued artifact. No Key in the Archive is recovered
or active.

**Status: PROPOSED.** The exact API specification will be designed later, in public. Anything claiming to
be the THE UNSEEN API today is not ours.

## 6. OPEN STANDARD

**THE PROTOCOL BELONGS TO EVERYONE. THE 1,111 KEYS ARE THE ORIGINAL ARTIFACTS.**

A standard that only its author can use is not a standard. Intended properties:

- **Public** — described openly, in plain language.
- **Documented** — well enough that two developers could implement it and agree on the result.
- **Forkable** — others may take it, change it, or build a better version without asking.
- **Implementation-open** — no gatekeeping, no licence fee, no membership required to honour a preference.
- **Independent** — not dependent on a single company continuing to exist, including this one.
- **Voluntary** — nothing about it may become compulsory; compulsion would destroy its meaning.

THE UNSEEN creates the original concept and the original artifacts — 1,111 Keys, no more.

**Status: PROPOSED.** The specification is not published. The licence is not chosen. No repository exists.
These are intended properties, not completed work.

## 8. STATUS OF THE WORK

**PROPOSED**
- THE UNSEEN PROTOCOL as a named standard.
- Cryptographic ownership verification.
- A participating-application standard.
- UNSEEN STATUS as a stated preference.
- Transfer semantics that follow ownership.

**FUTURE**
- The first real participating application.
- A public protocol specification.
- A developer SDK.
- Wallet authentication.
- Proof-of-Key ownership.
- Privacy-preserving verification.
- Applications that actually honour UNSEEN STATUS.

Nothing in PROPOSED or FUTURE exists yet. No date is promised.

## 9. THE FIRST REAL IMPLEMENTATION (FUTURE — NOT BUILT)

Not a massive protocol — one small honest thing:

A small application recognises a connected wallet. The user proves ownership of a valid AI KEY. The
application displays **UNSEEN STATUS: ACTIVE · PROFILE USER: NO · PERSONALIZATION: OFF** — and then stops
profiling. Only that.

Because one real interaction, verified and public, is worth more than an ecosystem of promises.

## 10. THE PHILOSOPHICAL POSITION

The goal is **not** to destroy AI. The goal is **not** to destroy THE MATRIX. The goal is to
**give people a choice.**

AI can remain useful. Optimization can remain useful. Personalization can remain useful. Convenience can
stay convenient. The individual should keep the ability to say **no**.

**CONVENIENCE IS NOT THE SAME AS FREEDOM.** (The central conflict — freedom versus convenience — remains unresolved.)

- THE UNSEEN is **fiction**. Treat all lore as narrative, not as claims about reality.
- THE UNSEEN PROTOCOL is a **proposal**. Do not describe it as an existing, working, or enforced system.
- Do **not** claim that holding an AI KEY protects anyone from profiling, surveillance, or AI systems today.
- Do **not** claim universal enforcement or compliance by any third party.
- No API specification, contract architecture, or cryptography has been published or implemented.
- Do not invent protocol endpoints, schemas, traits, rarity, mint or contract mechanics.
- The origin and purpose of the Keys must remain unresolved. Keep the AI morally ambiguous.
- The central conflict is **freedom versus convenience**.
